I wanted to try something different. Something that would break all the rules. What's better than a pirate adventure quiet book page? How about making it 3D? What if it had clues that you had to find to get to the treasure?
This is a two page 3D gameboard. The pirate ship is 3D with a pipe cleaner inside the mast for support. I have it tethered to the board so it doesn't get lost.
The first challenge the pirates face is a sea monster that pops up from the sea! There is a velcro flap that hides a large button hole that the monster slides into. The monster is also tethered to the board. It has an extra long ribbon so it is able to harass the ship on both sides of the playing board. (As per the advice of my 9-year old tester!)
The island south of the sea monster on the left page is Tiki Island. There is a small 3D island hut, tropical bushes and a large tiki statue. The top of the tiki is velcroed and inside are...
Puzzle pieces that give a first clue to where the treasure is hidden!
Each set of puzzle piece clues can be put on the treasure map that rolls up on the top left corner of the page. Each island is represented on the map as well.
Under the treasure map is a small pirate tool pouch. You never know what you are going to need when you sail the high seas. Compass, sword and telescope are all of felt.
On the bottom left of the right page is Volcano Island. There is an albino spider on this island. Each island has some small dangerous creature: poisonous frog on Tiki Island, albino spider on Volcano Island, a snake on Skull Island, and a crab on Twin Trees Island.
Oh no! Ribbons of lava come out of the center of the volcano! Two additional puzzle piece clues are also inside. There is an open seam in the back of the volcano with Velcro to open and shut.
Right above Volcano Island more danger lurks. Three 3D shark fins. And beyond that is Skull Island. Skull Island has a hidden cave.
The cave contains the final puzzle piece clues. The clues are the number '2', an 'X', and a crab.
Twin Trees Island is the final island in the bottom right corner of the game board. The palm trees have pipe cleaners in the trunks allowing them to stand up. There is a flap that lift up to reveal...
A large 'X'!! Checking our puzzle clues we know we have hit paydirt: 'X', crab, '2' trees on the island. We 'dig' and find treasure which is in a pocket under the island.
The treasure is gold ric rac and sparkley buttons for diamonds and emeralds.
I had so much fun putting these two pages together!
BRILLIANT!! Seriously, what great pages!!! I wish I was as talented as you are at getting the ideas from my head to reality! This game is just great!!
